a new dawn - a vision of hope

How you can help

We are still at a very early stage of this project, but already we have been buoyed by initial donations and all the messages of support for our work.  Put simply, School Aid 4 Zambia needs to have a higher public profile so that the increased interest in its work and the management role carried out by The Literacy in a Box Trust will result in the continuous inflow of funds required for the Trust to fulfill its aims.

School Aid 4 Zambia - is what we do!
Literacy in a Box Trust - is who we are.

The role of the Trust

The role of the Trust is threefold:

  • To co-ordinate the School Aid 4 Zambia programme logistically, enabling educational support to reach pupils in Zambia.
  • To engage with local communities and involve organisations, individuals, schools, commerce and media, to create an awareness of its work and that of the School Aid 4 Zambia programme.
  • On an ongoing basis, review and evolve the role of the Trust to ensure the School Aid 4 Zambia programme continues to offer relevant levels of support.

The collaboration indicated in 2. above will serve the following purposes.  It will:

  • Create a sustainable cashflow, the lifeblood for the Trust, so ensuring continuity of supplies with which School Aid 4 Zambia can support the education of Zambian children.
  • Encourage schools to link with schools in Zambia for cultural and other mutual benefit.  This is in line with current Government policy of encouraging UK schools to link with schools overseas.
  • Ensure that as needs develop in schools in Zambia, the content of the boxes are relevant to those needs.

How may it be achieved?

Rotary Clubs are to be found in most communities so it would be ideal, if in your locality, a Rotary Club took the lead in bringing together the community, schools, commerce and the media, to work with the Trust in their support of School Aid 4 Zambia.  This should not, however, rule out any individual who might wish to be involved.

As a trust, we envisage schools and commerce working in partnership to mutual benefit.  Schools will be very aware how well they are resourced in the UK and by contrast, how poorly are their Zambian colleagues.  Commerce and schools are encouraged to work together by the Government for what they can offer each other, but School Aid 4 Zambia gives both parties the opportunity to pool their collective strengths and help those in real need.

What YOU could do!

In order to move the project forward, we will need a network of committed volunteers to spread the word and become involved with our work.  If, through their efforts, we can engage the relevant partnerships in their community it should be possible to generate the steady income stream needed to offer ongoing support in Zambia and not be just a "drop in the ocean".

The two key tasks are fundraising and publicity and both are included in the Trust's Locality Development Plan (LDP).

Many thanks in advance for your assistance, the children of Zambia will be eternally grateful.
